Further Information

Mariya Dubovitskaya’s research interests include political communication in a comparative perspective; media and discourse analyses. The proposed dissertation project aims to research how the emerged importance of social media has altered the traditional political communication process in the authoritarian state on the case of Kazakhstan. The dissertation will analyze the extent to which the social networks in Kazakhstan affect political agenda and explores how politicians understand this new relationship and what measures they use to form its own agenda, monitor and affect the social media. Since the research covers the cross-cutting issues of media and political sciences the broad methodological approach is based on qualitative research encompassing case studies analysis, semi-structured interviews and review of secondary literature.
