We congratulate Hannah Frank, who successfully defended her PhD dissertation, Reconceptualizing Conflict Emergence: Evidence from Machine Learning, on the 28th of November at the Department of Political Science, Trinity College Dublin. Hannah’s work investigates how civil conflict emerges from preceding collective action, in particular, protest and low-intensity armed conflict, and leverages tools from machine learning to uncover the complex mechanisms that drive armed escalation.
